A lapse in that coverage can trigger a new suspension.

DUI suspensions carry requirements beyond the standard process. Completing a DMV-licensed DUI education program is typically mandatory before the DMV lifts the suspension. Some drivers suspended for DUI may also become eligible for a restricted license during the suspension period, which in certain cases requires installation of a DMV-approved ignition interlock device.

One distinction worth understanding: a DMV hearing to challenge a proposed suspension is a separate process from license reinstatement. A hearing happens at the start, before or shortly after the suspension begins. Reinstatement happens at the end, after the suspension period and all conditions are completed.
