What are the Consequences of Unpaid Traffic Tickets?

Maybe you forgot about that traffic ticket you received or maybe you decided not to deal with it and throw it away or put it in a drawer, but that doesn't make the ticket go away.

Unpaid traffic tickets can haunt you for years, and what started out as a simple mistake and a small fine can snowball into high penalties for failing to deal with the problem and pay the fine.

When you are issued a traffic tickets, you normally have a short period of time to pay of to fight the ticket. Usually a ticket for a moving violation, will have a court date scheduled within 30 days of the ticket's issuance. Drivers either need to pay the ticket within that time or develop their defense.

As time passes and the fine remains unpaid, the court may suspend your license, or have a trial in abstentia and convict you, or send the ticket through collections or a combination of the three. This is where the fees can start to reach several thousand dollars in late fees.

Sometimes courts will not allow you to reopen the case without paying off the ticket, or some sort of a motion to put it back on calendar. That is often where I can come in and help you not only get the hold off of your license, but get the case dismissed, the charge reduced, the fines lowered, or a combination.

Getting a ticket is not the end of the world and there are ways to fight tickets and win! without points being added to your license, but you'll need an experienced traffic ticket lawyer to help.
