Protect Your Driving Privileges Fight Your Ticket With Bigger & Harman Today

undefinedCalifornia drivers ticketed for speeding more than 100 mph are now facing consequences faster than ever before—even before their court date.

A new joint pilot program between the CA DMV and CHP, known as FAST (Forwarded Actions for Speeding Tickets), is designed to intervene quickly when speeding over 100 mph occurs.

Under FAST, any citation for speeding more than 100 mph is automatically forwarded to the DMV Driver Safety Branch.

“The DMV and CHP have launched a pilot program that takes swift action against drivers who are caught traveling more than 100 mph in the hopes of reducing potentially deadly crashes. The FAST (Forwarded Actions for Speeding Tickets) program automatically refers drivers to the DMV for review — independent of any court proceedings — to determine whether action should be taken against their driving privileges.”—The CA DMV Portal.

This referral occurs independent of traffic court proceedings and does not require a conviction. From a legal standpoint, this represents a major procedural shift, and you need the advice of a traffic ticket attorney immediately.

How the FAST Program Changes the Process

Traditionally, driver’s license revocations and suspensions followed a court trial and a finding of guilt.

Under FAST, the DMV may initiate license suspension or revocation based solely on the citation and the driver’s history. This suspension/revocation could happen even if the driver has no prior NOTS points.

CHP officers issue approximately 1,600 citations per month statewide for speeds exceeding 100 mph. In 2024, more than 18,000 triple-digit speeding tickets were issued.

FAST is intended to address this dangerous driving behavior through swift administrative action.

Why Drivers Are Getting DMV Hearings Without Any Input

Due to the volume of FAST referrals, the DMV is now auto-setting Driver Safety hearings. Drivers are receiving mailed notices with specific hearing dates without any input.

These hearings can determine whether driving privileges are suspended or revoked. Without warning, drivers may not have time to enlist legal representation.

From a traffic attorney’s perspective, ignoring these notices is one of the biggest mistakes drivers make after speeding more than 100 mph.

Immediate Steps After a 100+ MPH Citation

Drivers should take the following action immediately after receiving a ticket for speeding more than 100 mph:

  1. Confirm that your mailing address with the DMV is current.
  2. Check your mailbox frequently for DMV and court notices.
  3. Contact a California traffic attorney immediately.

FAST moves quickly, and you need to get ahead of the DMV, by enlisting a traffic attorney immediately after getting ticketed.
