Contesting Tickets Won’t Count Against You
Mark: A lot of it depends on the individual judge. I would say, in general, the answer is no. You’re probably going to be facing about the same consequences as if you had pled at an earlier stage, but there are some exceptions.
I can tell you there’s certain judges that will give you a deep discount if you take a deal at certain stages of the proceedings. For instance, there’s one judge here in Kern County, who for commercial truck drivers that have clean records over the last 18 months, he will cut them a deal at the arraignment and it has a tendency to be a smaller fine. It will be a significantly smaller fine, as well as a non-point violation, so you sort of get the double victory. You’ll end up with less of a fine and keep the infraction off your record.
