I RobotWho needs a living, breathing lawyer to handle your Tulare or San Bernardino County traffic ticket when a robot can do the same thing?

Joshua Browder, a 19-year-old UK student, developed a computer program to handle parking ticket appeals in England. The Stanford University student programmed the robot with a conversation-based algorithm to make it user friendly, and gave it access to all written laws. Mr. Browder says the robot, which cannot give legal advice, has had a 47 percent success rate in dealing with appeals.

Mr. Browder predicts that the robot could eventually be used to handle flight cancellation and insurance coverage disputes.

What an Attorney Can Do

While a robot or ticket-busting app may be smart, the local courts are still powered by people: judges, clerks, and prosecutors. So, an aggressive advocate who has a track record of success is your best chance to achieve a positive result. Moreover, many of the rules and procedures in these courts are unwritten, and it take an experienced attorney to steer your case through the system in the most efficient manner possible.

An attorney can also give comprehensive legal and financial advice, with respect to options like plea negotiation and traffic school. That advice often means more dollars in your pocket and fewer points towards NOTS drivers’ license suspension.

Finally, an attorney can deal with unpaid traffic tickets, and in most cases, get them back on the docket and the license suspension lifted without so much as a court appearance.
