Getting Around At The ClnwsThe U.S. Navy scuttled a planned training exercise that involved jamming GPS signals around the China Lake Naval Weapons Station.

The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, which mostly represents small aviators, had asked the Navy to release more information regarding its plans to shut down GPS signals over a 400-plus mile radius around China Lake on six different June days, “so that civilian pilots can understand the possible impact on their activities and plan their flights accordingly.” Evidently, rather than reveal secrets, the Navy thought it best to simply cancel the exercise and preserve goodwill in the community.

The exercise, which the FAA would have had to approve, was designed to teach pilots to navigate without GPS assistance.

Federal Traffic Ticket

Trying to find you way is also a hazard for drivers, because they might go the wrong way down a one-way street or miss a traffic control device while driving. Friendly MPs are more than willing to issue traffic tickets in these situations.

A federal judge in Bakersfield hears all these matters about eight or twelve times a year, so it is almost impossible to get the date rescheduled for a convenient time, and defendants must appear unless they are represented by attorneys. Traffic school is often unavailable in federal cases, and tickets may also affect your base privileges.

Many attorneys are not licensed to practice in federal court, and almost none of them handle traffic tickets. But a lawyer that routinely handles these matters can negotiate a deal with federal prosecutors that keeps more money in your pocket and more time in your day.
