A man who began his work career at a Western Sizzlin’ is now one
of the highest-ranking non-officers in the United States Air Force.
After leaving his busboy duties behind, Chief Master Sergeant Todd Simmons
joined the Air Force in the mid-1990s, where one of his first jobs was
security detail on B-52s that were on the flight line. He admits that
his duties were less than exciting, and to pass the time, he often walked
laps around the venerable old bomber. Now, as
command chief of the 412th Test Wing, which is stationed at Edwards Air Force Base, he oversees test
fighter-plane flights. CMSgt. Simmons is also the top enlisted advisor
to wing commander Brigadier General Carl Schaefer.
CMSgt. Simmons’ philosophy is “Take care of the people, and
the people will take care of the mission.”
