A California man tried to elude officers in a stolen SUV prior to being captured.
Authorities state that the man, whose identity was not released, was stopped
for speeding on Interstate 8 in La Mesa. Instead of stopping, the man
fled into El Cajon, stopping only when he crashed into a parked minivan.
The man sought refuge in a nearby shed, and surrendered to police after
a one-hour bloodless standoff.
When you're pulled over, many people have a natural tendency to try
and avoid punishment by running from the police, verbally if not physically.
In other words, we may comply and pull over, but then try to talk our
way out of the ticket. This is especially true if you have outstanding
warrants, or something similar.
Nearly everyone gets pulled over at one time or another. Here are a few
simple rules to follow when that happens:
Be respectful and courteous, but remember your rights. You'll probably
still get a ticket, but at least you won't make things worse.
